With so many different types of heaters on the market, it can be difficult to know which type are the best one to purchase. That said, the market has geared more towards ceramic heaters that use fans and it makes sense that it happened. That’s because they’re able to offer more heat output at a faster rate while still having a high heating temperature. So a lot of people might question what other heaters that don’t use a fan might have to offer.

We’re here to do a review on this DeLonghi HMP1500 Mica Panel Heater. This heater does not have a fan and that can put a lot of people off. That said, just because a product isn’t using a feature that’s used with a lot of other products within its category doesn’t mean you should ignore it. This Delonghi heater is one of those products.

Function

Feeling the Heat:

Let’s start at the focal point of any heater, and that would be the heat that it’s actually able to output.

Yes, this heater does indeed not have a fan and that can sound bad, heck it sounds bad even writing it down. However, the heat output with this Delonghi heater is actually quite capable even with its two heat levels and lack of a fan.

So there are two heat settings, with heat Level 1 being a 750Watt output, and that’s 2,559 BTUs. While the high setting has a 1500Watt output with it being 5,118 BTUs. The heat radiates off this heater, and even though that might not sound as effective as heaters that use a fan, the power intensity behind the heat is what really makes this keep up with ones that do use fans.

Two Different Parts Heat Up

At the lower heat setting at 750Watts, the heater heats up the upper portion of its panel, and some might think that there’s something wrong with the heater. However, that’s just the way that it works. Then on the high 1500Watt setting, it heats up the top and lower panel of the heater.

The low heat setting is not very powerful, and we found that it’s most useful for heating up a bedroom or for personal use, such as keeping the heater close to you. While the high setting is much better for larger rooms or a living room as it radiates more heat out at the same time. That’s where this Delonghi heater truly shines, as it has a few more large areas that its ability to radiate heat from at once and therefore heating up bigger areas is possible.

Just to make it clear, on the lower setting, yes this heater is actually quite weak. But using it on its higher setting proves to be more useful for heating a room at a much faster rate and overall, making an increase in temperature that is ultimately more noticeable.

Anti-Freeze Setting

This heater also uses a Thermostat with its other dial, there are a total of 7 thermostat settings that you can have this heater set to. The first is not like the others and that’s because it’s an anti-freeze setting and that means the heater will stay on just enough to make sure that the room does not freeze, as it’ll turn on once the room goes to 41 degrees or below.

All the other 6 settings on this heater are just numbered 1-6, so you just have to feel which temperature setting for you is the best.

Fuel Usage:

The power usage with this Delonghi heater can change quite drastically depending on how you’re using it. That’s because the Low and High setting of this heater has very different power outputs. We recommend using the High setting in short bursts and then maintain the use of the Low heat setting as a way to not use a lot of power with it.

Design

Functional Components:

Using this heater is simple. It has a 6-foot power cord and once you plug that in, you’re ready to use.

There are two dials to the right of the heater, with the top one controlling the heat level, and the bottom being the thermostat adjuster.

When you turn the heat level dial to either level one or two, a red light comes on above it to show that the heater is in uses. Once the heater is on, one of the best features takes place and that would be the lack of noise. The amount of noise that a heater makes is a large concern for potential buyers because nobody wants with their appliances to be noisy as it can be disruptive to any environment.

So one of the best features of this Delonghi heater is just how silent it is, as it makes no noise at all since there’s no fan being used. You won’t even hear a humming noise.

On the assembly side, this heater does require just a little but don’t panic. The only assembly that needs to be done is installing the wheels and that is the way that most people are going to be using this heater. The other way to use this heater is to install it on a wall and the heater actually comes with a mounting kit that you can use to do so.

Also, with mounting it onto a wall or placing it flat against the wall with the wheels on is another great part of the heater. That’s because it doesn’t have a backside that needs to be uncovered as the heat is generated from within the heater.

Size and Weight:

The form factor of this heater is one of the best parts of it and that’s because it’s slim. It has a height of 22 inches, a width of 27 inches and a depth of 4 inches. So it has a very low profile no matter where you’re using it. The weight of this heater is also very light as it has a 10-pound weight.

Build

Structure and Material:

Most of the heater is made of metal and overall it has a great build quality to it with no loose pieces, but there’s just one flaw. The one flaw would be the front grille part and that’s because it’s very thin and so you should be careful that nothing hits it hard as people have reported of it being able to dent and unable to fix it.

Safety:

Technical safety with this heater is very good. It has an auto-shutoff feature for if the heater overheats, and also if it tips over. You can place it flat against a wall as the outside back metal part of the heater does not get hot at all.

Summary:

Function:

Many might have concerns about the heating this Delonghi heater has to provide, but rest assured with its larger area output, it’s able to keep up with a heater that uses a fan. With high heat being used for larger rooms and the low heat useful for bedrooms and personal use too.

Design:

The slim form factor is awesome as it leaves a small footprint in the room that you place it in and using it is easy as well with it using only two dials.

Build:

The heater is constructed well, but having the front grille be more sturdy would be better. On the technical safety side, it does a good job with it having auto-shutoffs if it overheats, or if it tips over.
