Fire pits are one of the most important outdoor centerpieces that you can place within your outdoor living space and that’s because they create a powerful atmosphere. Now, it might sound strange but there is something natural about burning wood and just feeling the heat of the raging flames. At the same time, as awesome and wholesome it is to use fire pits, they can be difficult to get going, they can create quite a lot of soot while they’re lit and they also create a lot of smoke once they’ve been blown out. That’s where propane fit pits come into play.

If you’re someone that doesn’t like the synthetic way of doing things then propane fire pits may not be to your liking. However, the benefit of using them is actually very helpful as they’re easy to set-up and light. Another thing is that they don’t create soot or nearly as much as a real fire pit would so you can just turn it on and turn it off without having to worry about the extra things.

This Outland Firebwol 893 propane gas fire pit is quite a popular propane fire pit on the market and its usefulness has been stated by quite a lot of customers. We’re going to cover what it’s like to own this propane fit pit in this review, so let’s take a look at what it has to offer.

Function

The heating output or basically how much heat you’re able to feel from a fire pit is the first thing that most people are curious about and it makes sense. As that’s one of the main reasons that you’re actually purchasing a fire pit in the first place. When it comes to fire pit tables, they usually have 30,000 BTUs or maybe 40,000 BTUs. That said, we’re not dealing with a fire pit table, this is more of a plain fire pit that’s powered by propane and therefore it’s able to offer more powerful heat.

This Outland Firebowl 893 has a heat output of 58,000 BTUs and that’s very high and basically surpasses the heating output of most other patio heaters. However, just something to consider is that you’re dealing with a large flame and that flame isn’t focused too much, so it has a more dispersed diameter where the heat actually goes. At the same time, if you have this fire pit on its highest setting with its full 58,000 BTU. Sitting about 6-7 feet away from the fire pit will yield no problems feeling the heat.

Feeling the Heat:

This propane fire pit definitely simulates using a real fire pit very well as the heating output is very large and since you and your guests/family/friends are going to be sitting around it, then you’re going to have no problems feeling the heat. The threshold of actually taking advantage of the heat with this fire pit is at about 50-degree weather, if you expect to be using this at 30-degree weather, well don’t as the heat won’t have much of an effect.

Fuel Usage:

To actually fuel this fire pit you’re going to need a 20LB propane tank or at least that’s because this fire pit has a gas hose that can attach to a 20LB propane tank right out of the box. You can potentially use small propane tanks but that will ultimately result in a faster rate of fuel consumptions. Using the fire pit at its highest heat will result in about 8 hours of use from a 20LB propane tank. Using the fire pit at a lower setting will result in a few more hours of use but overall, we think that it does have a fair amount of fuel usage when it comes to using it.

Also, if you’re wondering if you can convert this fire pit to being powered by natural gas, you can. However, the fire pit doesn’t come with the gas conversion kit, so you’ll have to purchase it separately. You can use the compatible Natural Gas Conversion Kit 780 that is sold separately.

Design

One of the best parts about purchasing this fire pit is that you don’t have to assemble anything. Most of the time when it comes to fire pit tables, assembly is always required as it’s a table, but with just a plain fire pit such as this one all you have to do is connect the gas hose to the burner, and place the lava rocks at the center and you’re good to go.

Size and Weight:

This definitely emulates what a real fire pit would be lit when it comes to the size of it. As it has a diameter of 18.5 inches and it has a height of 10.5 inches. Okay, it might be smaller than a real fire pit when it comes to diameter, but the heat output is so high that it makes up for the small size. The height of the fire pit is also another great part of it as it’s going to sit beneath you where you can make the most of the heat since it rises, and so you can roast some marshmallows quite easily while it sits beneath you too.

The weight of this fire pit is perfect, as it has a weight of 26.9 pounds, and what makes the weight even easier to handle is that it comes with fasteners that you can wrap around the entire fire pit and use it easily to carry the fire pit around.

Functional Components:

Actually using this fire pit is quite easy as it has very minimal parts to make it work. You have to connect the gas hose to the propane tank, turn on the propane tank and then wait about a minute or two minutes for the propane tank to pressurize. Then you can turn the knob to low, wait about 30 seconds and then use a matchstick to actually light the fire. Once the fire pit is lit you can then adjust how large or small you want the fire to be.

There is no auto-ignition when it comes to this Outland fire pit and that’s a very good part of it and that’s because when intricacies are added, it tends to ruin the user experience. This more simple approach to manual lighting erases the guesswork.

The fire pit comes with lava rocks as many fire pits and fire pit tables do. We recommend using fire glass as it makes the fire look better and creates an overall better ambiance.

Build

Structure and Material:

The entire fire pit is made of steel, but the only stainless steel part is the burner. It does come with a cover that can be useful for when you’re moving it around. One question that many people have when it comes to using this fire pit is whether or not they can use it inside, and the recommendation is, no. You shouldn’t use this inside if there’s more poor ventilation as the propane gas can be harmful.

You can place this fire pit on a table or on a wooden patio as the bottom of the fire pit doesn’t get hot. Just the top where the fire is on.

Summary:

Function:

The power output of this fire pit is very good, especially at its highest setting when you can feel the flames very well.

Design:

It has a small size and low height that fits its functions as it’s more of a traditional fire pit and it’s also very easy to use without the use of auto-ignition.

Build:

The build quality of this fire pit is very good as it’s mostly made of stainless and you can use it on tables and on wooden platforms since the heat doesn’t reach the bottom.
