There are quite a few wants and needs when it comes to the things that get for our household. The things that we need can at times be hard to figure out, but one of the appliances that we find to be a need for any household would be a humidifier. When wintertime comes around things get pretty hard. We have to bundle up to brace the cold, we start our cars in order to warm them so we can hurry up and turn on the heat and possibly one of the main things that we all feel is the dryness with our skin and how the air feels a lot more sharper to breathe in.

The use of a humidifier is vital during the cold months as it’s able to change the environment in your house, as it’s able to provide more moisture to the air. This can have quite a few benefits such as being able to stop dryness with your skin and making the air easier to breathe in too. These type of feeling are things that you don’t really notice until you get a humidifier to fix them, and this Vicks humidifier can very well be the solution to your problem.

Coming from a brand that is known for soothing things out when it comes to your breathing, let’s see what they have to offer with this product.

Function

So how well does this humidifier actually increase the humidity within your room? Well, that’s going to depend on how large the room is, but a large misconception when it comes to humidity, in general, is people expect them to be able to increase the humidity in an entire house. That’s not what this humidifier is able to do. The larger the room you have, the less the humidity will rise as there’s more air in the room that needs to be filled with water vapor.

That said, when it comes to this Vicks humidifier and how it actually outputs its water is an also a significant factor when it comes to humidifying the room. This is not an Ultra Sonic humidifier and that means it’s not something like the SPT humidifier that we’ve reviewed in the past. What does that mean? Well, Ultra Sonic humidifier is able to push out water vapor at a faster rate and therefore that increases the rate at which humidity rises in a room.

With this Vicks humidifier, however, it uses a mist and it basically comes out at a slower rate. There are two output options when it comes to this humidifier. You can either choose between Low or High. Having the humidifier at its high setting should be your first inclination as you’re going to want the room to have increased humidity as fast possible.

Standards of Humidity

Of course, you’re going to want to set the humidity rate to slow once you’ve reaches a humidity percentage of either 40%, 50% or 60%. The reason for that is because if you have too much of a high humidity then that can result in mold development within your house. The best way to track humidity in your house without just depending on how you feel is by using a humidity monitor and in this case, we recommend uses Vick’s very own humidity monitor that tells you both the temperature and humidity level within a room.

Uses

As for what type of environment is best for using this humidifier. Using it within a living room is acceptable, just know that it can be effective within a 1,000 square foot area, so larger the area, the longer it will take to be effective. The ideal place to use this humidifier is to use it within bedrooms as there’s less area to cover and so you’re able to take advantage of the rise in humidity levels even more.

It’s also great to use when you’re sick in your bedroom as it makes it easier to breathe. Speaking of being sick, what type of Vicks product would this be if it didn’t have attributes that were made to assist people that were sick?

It already releases warm mist, at the same time, there are things that you can do to make the way this humidifier work in a more efficient way if you’re sick.

To the side of the humidifier is where you can place Vapor pads and then on top is where you input Vapor steam. Both of these aid in opening air pathways for those that either have the flu or the common cold and Vicks made a great choice placing both of these options with an appliance that was made to do some of that already.

Design

The entire humidifier already comes fully assembled, so you don’t have to worry about putting things together.

Size and Weight:

The size of this humidifier is small and this can be said about most humidifiers, as this one uses a 1 Gallon tank. It has a length of 14.2 inches, the width is 12 inches, and the thickness is 7.9 inches. The weight of this humidifier as a whole is 4.3 pounds without the water added to the water tank.

Functional Components:

When it comes to actually using this humidifier it’s quite easy. The water tank is removable, of course, it has a handle that makes it easy to carry around. When you take the water tank out, it has a twistable cap and that’s where you fill the water in from. Once you fill the water tank up, you can then plug in the power cord and you’re ready to actually use the humidifier.

This Vicks humidifier is controlled by just a single dial, with it starting at the off option, the other two options are for Low and High settings. There’s one other marking on this humidifier but it’s just for a light that comes on indicating that the humidifier is low on water.

Build

Structure and Material:

The entirety of this humidor is of plastic, and that can be said about many other more humidifiers on the market. So you’re definitely going to want to keep it away from the edge of a table because if it drops there’s a high chance that the plastic can break and make the water leak out of the container.

Safety:

Once the water of the humidifier is low, it actually automatically turns off and we found that to be a vital safety feature as having the humidifier run would cause a fire hazard. As it could overheat without having water to cool it down.

The most important thing to do when it comes to owning this humidifier and basically any other humidifier out there is that you must clean it periodically. This Vicks humidifier does not use a filter, but using distilled water will enable you to delay the build-up of bacteria and not having to clean it as much. That said, cleaning it after a full tank has been depleted is a must.

Summary:

Function:

It does a decent job providing a good humidity rate to most rooms, but the best way to take advantage of this humidifier is within a bedroom.

Design:

It’s very easy to use with few parts to actually use, and all you really have to do is fill it with water, plug-in and turn on to either low or high.

Build:

It’s made of plastic, so just make sure that it can’t fall from a high height. Also, it automatically turns off when it no longer has any water inside of it. Perhaps one of the most important things to remember and do when it comes to owning a humidifier is remembering to clean it as it can have a build-up of bacteria and calcium if you down clean it periodically.
