Size differences when it comes to home appliances are one of the most prevalent and noticeable things when it comes to different categories. Such as having a cutting board that’s on the small side or having a much larger cutting board. However, when it comes to size differences with cutting boards, the type of experience that you’ll have with it is quite obvious as you’ll have less space with one and more with the other.
When it comes to heaters, on the other hand, things are a little different and that’s because the main difference is in quite a few things depending on what type of heater you’re going with. There are Personal heaters that are on the small size and there are also larger heaters. The small ones may not always feature what the larger ones have.
At the same time, when we’re talking about heaters they can still be very capable appliances.
In this case, we’re reviewing Vornado’s VH202 heater which fits into the personal space heater category. So let’s take a look at how this heater performs as one that you use a few feet away from you and also if it’s possible to actually use this heater for heating up a bedroom.
Function
Feeling the Heat:
One of the surprises that we found with this Vornado personal heater is that it uses two heat settings. Most of the time when it comes to Personal space heaters, there’s just a Power ON/OFF switch and that’s it.
In this case, there’s a Low heat setting that has a heat output of 375Watts and would be 1,279 BTUs. The high setting with this heater has an output of 750Watts and that’s 2,559 BTUs. Both of the settings are quite different in terms of the heat they provide, so is there actually hope that this can be a whole room heater as well?
Well, the truth is not really. The Low setting of this heater does output warm air, but you’re going to have to have the heater be about 1-2 feet away from you to get any benefit of the heat. While the high setting on this heater is a lot more helpful for feeling the heater at a greater distance. Even with more heat being outputted with the High setting, it’s simply not enough to warm up a bedroom easily as the fan in this heater is too small and therefore it outputs less heat at once.
If you want to test it out and actually try to heat up a bedroom with this heater, then we recommend closing the door to the bedroom so that cold air can’t get into the room and the warm air from the heater stays inside.
There is no fan only options with this heater and it does not oscillate, both of which we can’t hold against this heater at it’s a personal one.
Fuel Usage:
With two very low heat settings, the power usage of this heater isn’t too great and you can actually use the high setting for a long duration of time without having your electrical bill hike up in prices like crazy.
Design
Functional Components:
Using this Vornado heater is basically the same when it comes to most of the brand’s products but in this case, it’s all more simplified as it’s a very minimal type of heater. There’s a 6-foot power cord that you should plug into a wall outlet.
Once that’s done, there are two controls at the back. There’s the Red Power ON and OFF switch. Once it’s on you can control the heat level with the black switch to the right that as the two Low and High settings.
At the front, there are two lights. With one being the Orange light that comes on once you have the heater on to indicate that it’s running. The light next to it is the Red one and that turns on for when the heater is overheating to alert you that something is wrong.
Size and Weight:
Since this is a personal heater, it’s going to be quite small. So small that placing this heater on your desk at work is one of the best ways to use it, as that’s the main reason that it was built for.
The height of this heater is 7.9 inches, it has a width/depth of 7 inches. The weight of this Personal heater is 1.9 pounds. Nothing unusual about this heater in terms of its size or weight and that’s really the way it should be when it comes to personal heaters.
Build
Structure and Material:
This heater is on the same level in terms of build quality when it comes to other Vornado products as it’s also made of plastic. Even with its two controls, the heater feels great to use as there’s nothing fancy.
Safety:
This VH202 Vornado heater uses to main types of protections. With one being automatically shutting off if the heater overheats. However, overheating occurs, most of the time, when something is blocking the circulation of air to the heater, so we recommend not placing the heater closely to a wall. Another thing is that it automatically shuts off if it gets tipped over.
Summary:
