When you plan on getting the best product within a certain category then that product is going to feature things that other modes don’t have. Another thing is that they’re a lot more capable of doing things on a larger scale and doing it more efficiently too. That’s basically what it’s like when it comes to the market of heaters. Heaters are one of the most used appliances within households and so there are lots of them out on the market. There are small ones that are meant for personal use, and there are also ones that are meant for warming up an entire room.

The product that we’re reviewing here focuses on the ladder and what makes this heater quite a bit different than other heaters is that it’s from Vornado. Vornado, in a way, is like the Apple of the indoor heater market and that is not an insult. It’s a compliment as they keep their products looking very stylish while at the same time making them highly functional with the heat that they’re able to provide.

This Vornado VMH500 heater is one of the best from Vornado that accumulates a lot of things that their other heaters have, along with quite a few things that their heaters don’t have. So let’s take a closer look.

Function

Feeling the Heat:

The main event of this heater is right here, and that would be the heating power that it provides. There are just two heating settings with this heater, but that’s not too much of a problem as the fan is very powerful and the size of this heater is quite large. The size matters because the larger it is, the more heat it’s able to take in and then output into the room.

The Low setting on this heater has a 750Watt output (2,559 BTUs) and this may not sound like a lot but you can easily find a use for the low setting. The best way to use the low heat setting is if you’re wanting to heat a bedroom as the heat that comes out is less hot than the high setting. Also, the fan doesn’t blow at any different speed with the Low or High heat settings.

That said, using his Vornado VMH500 heater on its high setting is making the most of it. As you’re able to heat an entire living room with it. Of course, it’s not like the room will heat up in a few minutes, but in our experience, we found that it took about 30-45 minutes to heat a living room that was about 30 x 30 and that is very impressive. Once the heater has heated the entire room to your desired temperature placing it on Low heat is the best course of action as the heater is still quite powerful in that setting.

A third setting that this heater uses is the Air setting and that basically makes this heater into a fan, or rather it just blows air out. The air setting is useful if all you want to do is just circulate the air within the room.

This heater doesn’t Oscillate, and we expected it with the way that it looks right from the box. Even so, without the oscillation, with so much heat being outputted at once it’s still able to spread heat throughout the room quite well.

Power Usage:

Power usage is a concern for people that want to still heat their homes while at the same time don’t want to skyrocket their bills. As always, using the high setting, especially with a heater with a power of its magnitude, you’re going to want to use the high setting up till the set thermostat temperature. After that, setting it to low is the best thing to do to save on power.

Using the High settings constantly for very long durations of time can affect your electrical bill.

Design

Functional Components:

When it comes to using this heater there definitely a few things to know. The first thing to know is that this heater uses a 6-foot power cord that uses 3 prongs. You must plug the power cord into an AC wall outlet for safety reasons.

Two Digital Displays

Once plugged in, you’re ready to use the heater. The main controls on this heater are at the top and that’s where you’ll find the power button to left and once you press it, a digital display comes on at the top and also at the front of the heater too. Yes, there are two digital displays with this heater.

Both of the displays show the current room temperature. Back to the top, is where you can find the Plus and Minus buttons for changing the thermostat temperature and when you do adjust the thermostat temperature it shows it on both the screens, blinks for a few seconds, becomes solid, and then it switches back to the current temperature of the room.

Selecting Heat Setting

The button to the right is to choose the heat setting and you can switch between the Low / High and Fan settings with this heater. Also, once you turn this heater on, there’s a Red light that comes on near the front digital display at the corner to show that the heater is on.

Also at the top is the timer button that’s not where the handle, but is offset away from it, and once you press it you can adjust the amount of time that you want this heater to run for with the plus and minus buttons.

When you adjust the settings with this heater, the lights become brighter, and then after about 20 seconds of not touching the settings, the display dims back down. This heater also uses a handle at the top where the digital display is which makes it easier to carry around.

One of the important parts when it comes to using this heater is that you must place it on a flat surface so the tip over mechanism is pushed in all the way.

Uses a Remote

Surprisingly, this also uses a remote and that goes to show just how top tier this heater truly is. The remote does not have a digital display, but it does have all the controls that the heater itself has on it, so you have you don’t have to go to the heater to adjust the settings. The remote control uses CR2032 batteries and takes just one.

The noise of the fan is hearable, but at the same time, you can’t notice it too well if you’re focusing on something else while it’s in the same room with you. Think of it as being background noise.

Size and Weight:

The size and weight of this heater are similar to Vornado’s other Whole Roomheatres and so it won’t be taking up a lot of space at all. It has a height of 11.7 inches, a width/depth of 9 inches. The heater is to place within a corner, not too close to touching the wall and it can be out of the way. Another thing is that it’s also lightweight despite it being made of steel. Something that most other heaters on the market don’t do.

Build

Structure and Material:

Yes, this heater is made of steel, and that gives it a more premium feel and look. That said, it’s not very different than using a plastic build as this heater doesn’t get hot even when you’re using it on its high setting.

Safety:

Safety with this heater is what you can expect from other Vornado heaters with it using Overheating protection and auto shut-off if the heater does tip over.

This is one of Vornado’s most powerful healers and it shows with its Low and High heating setting. It’s so powerful that it can very well heat a garage if you leave it on long enough.
